History of the Red Car

The Pacific Electric Red Cars, prominent electric trolleys in Southern California from the early 1900s to the 1940s, linked sparsely populated towns & unincorporated districts. World War II gasoline and tire rationing, as well as the interruption of new car manufacture, brought a brief reprieve for the Big Red Car.

Post-war affluence fueled personal car ownership. By the late 1940s the Big Red Cars began to fade, and by the 1960s were gone. Both the Red Car and the small neighborhood brewery played key service roles in the lives of small, growing communities. Red Car Ales™, our company’s flagship beer brand, highlights the endearing legacy of the old thundering Red Cars.
